Are you a mo bro or mo sista?

Movember is an initiative that we at Riverstone Family Dental support. We align ourselves with the Movember vision – to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health and this is why: Did you know that on average men die 6 years earlier than women? This is a statistic that we can help change by increasing awareness about men’s health. Some key issues related to men’s health are mental health issues, prostate and testicular cancer.

Men’s health is important

Men’s health is important and is often overlooked. Think of the males you know and go back to the last time you spoke together about health problems. Chances are it may have been a rare conversation or one that was had a while ago. Creating awareness about the risks of mental health issues, prostate and testicular cancer allows conversations to be created and action to be taken to help prevent these conditions. If you have men in your life, recommend they see their doctor for check ups and address health issues early on. The Movember foundation made us aware of something alarming: 70% of men are happy to be relied upon for support, but only 48% feel that they can rely on their friends. We are more than happy to be there for our mates, but are hesitant to ask for help when we need it ourselves. This is why starting a conversation is important and an initiative like Movember can do just that. Furthermore, as a guideline, at 50 years old, men are recommended to ask their doctor about prostate and testicular cancer screening. Often, men forget or get too busy to do this screening but in some instances, it could save their life. Read on to find out more reasons why we are proud mo bros and mo sistas!

Top 3 Mo Perks

1. Boost your confidence

There is nothing like changing something about the way you look and embracing it. People will notice the change and compliment you. Keep things fresh and different by growing and grooming your mo. Mo’s are also a great conversation starter and can lead to conversations about men’s health and your reason for growing it.

2. Giving back creates fulfilment

Studies have shown that when you make a difference, are part of a community and are positively impacting other people’s lives, you feel valuable and fulfilled. Personal benefits aside, giving back should be top priority for all people and businesses and comes back to what you value most in life.

3. Draw attention to your mouth

A mo acts like a flashing, neon sign directing your attention to a smile underneath. It acts in the same way as bright lipstick. Harness this tool to stand out and emphasize one of our greatest features: your smile. It goes without saying, ensure you have great oral hygiene and are looking after your pearly whites.
