Implants

For replacing missing teeth – previously options were only dentures or bridges. Reasons for replacing missing teeth include: for the appearance, to chew better and to stop other teeth moving into the gaps.

Implants have revolutionised the way dentists can replace missing teeth. Dental implants are metal screws that act like the roots of your teeth. Implants are inserted into your jaw bone to act as anchors for either a crown or a denture. Because they are made of titanium, they have a great history of being accepted into the body. Before you get a dental implant, you will need a comprehensive check up to to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. You will need to be committed to maintaining good oral health so you do not develop an infection of the implant later on. You will also require a 3D scan of your mouth to assess how much space you have for the implant.

Sometimes, if there isn’t enough bone in your jaws, you may require a bone graft. This is an additional procedure which helps to strengthen the bone in the area. It may mean you have to wait for about 3 months before placing the implant.
